Bali Backpacking – All the Costs You Need to Know

Backpacking in Bali is ridiculously enjoyable.  Getting around is easy & you will constantly find yourself gazing at the traditional and tropical scenery along the way – including rice paddies, majestic temples with monkeys and beaches of no comparison.

Bali transport includes minibusses and taxis, which are the most common form of transport, costing around $6.50 from the Airport to Kuta. If you wish to travel further north/east to Tulamben & Ubud, it will cost over $26. A new form of transport is the Grab feature, where you can order a taxi from a downloadable application. Grab car will only cost $1.25 though it is usually only allowed in the Denpasar & Kuta area.

Food & Drink

Bali’s streets usually consist of both local and western food.  Generally, a meal at a local warung costs less than $1.25, and an average western meal costs around $3. You can find large Bintang beers anywhere – from a local convenience store (Circle K) for about $2, to any restaurant for around $2.25.

Note that most guesthouses offer free breakfast, usually serving pancakes and omelets with coffee and milk. The Grab application also features ‘Grab food’ which lets you order almost any food from any location for the same price, only adding an additional delivery cost of no more than $3.
